Mosher, Donald L.; Abramson, Paul R. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1977
A film of a male or female masturbating was viewed by 96 males and 102 females. Males reported the highest level of sexual arousal to the female film and the lowest level of arousal to the male film. Females were sexually aroused by both films. (Author)

Turner, Robert G.; Peterson, Marsha – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1977
Investigated the moderating effect of both private and public self-consciousness on the predictive validity of self-reported emotional expressivity. Predictions of higher self-report-criterion correlations for low public self-conscious persons were supported. (Author)

Segal, Bernard – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1973
It was expected that sensation seeking would not be accompanied by an increase in tension. The results tended to confirm that expectation, thus providing some degree of additional validity to the concept of sensation seeking as a specific personality dimension. (Author)

Lilliston, Lawrence – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1972
The results clearly indicate support for the general hypothesis of differential verbal conditioning effects as a function of the interaction between value related content and the S's personal value orientation. (Author)

Weingaertner, Arthur H. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
Study results indicated that schizophrenics who shocked themselves upon experiencing auditory hallucinations failed to show significantly greater improvement than the control group. Thus the general conclusion drawn is that conditioning did not appear to be the mechanism by which most of the significant therapeutic changes occurred. (Author)

Jacobson, Neil S.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Tested the hypothesis that distressed spouses are more reactive to immediate events than nondistressed couples. Couples recorded positive, negative and neutral events and satisfaction levels. Distressed couples reported lower rates of positive behavior and that marital satisfaction depended more on frequency of recent positive or negative events.…

Rappaport, Herbert – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1972
Within an experimental paradigm that simulated systematic desensitization, the effects of manipulated cognitive expectancy on avoidance behavior were evaluated. The results indicated that both overt avoidance behavior and two verbal indexes were differentially affected by expectancy and that no relationship between avoidance behavior and autonomic…

Stiles, William B.; Sultan, Faye E. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1979
Verbal behavior in transcripts of psychotherapy was coded according to Stile's taxonomy of verbal response modes. Therapists of different theoretical persuasions used different mixtures of verbal techniques. Common elements that make verbal interaction psychologically therapeutic lie in client behavior. (Author)

Bernstein, Douglas A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
Five groups of 15 female subjects reporting fear of snakes participated in two behavioral avoidance tests employing a snake as the target object. Results are discussed both in terms of implications for psychotherapy outcome research design and possible usefulness of situational variables in the development of more effective anxiety-reduction…

Novak, David W. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1974
The purpose of this study was to examine children's reactions to different types of peer behaviors which are indicative of emotional disturbance. Subjects were found to view distrubed peers as unattractive and were unwilling to associate with them. (EK)

Farley, Frank H.; Sonja V. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1972
The main experimental hypothesis of this study, that high sensation seeking subjects would be characterized by a significantly greater number of escape attempts than low sensation seeking subjects, has been strongly supported. (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Patterns, Correctional Institutions, Delinquency, Delinquent Behavior

Hekmat, Hamid; Vanian, Daniel – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1971
Results support the hypothesized relationship between meaning and phobia. Semantic desensitization techniques based on counter conditioning of meaning were significantly effective in altering the semantic value of the word from unpleasantness to neutrality. (Author)

Linehan, Marsha M.; Nielsen, Stevan L. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1981
Shoppers completed the Beck Hopelessness Scale, the Edwards Social Desirability Inventory, and a survey of past suicidal behavior. Results indicated hopelessness and social desirability were reliably related to reports of past suicidal behavior, to frequency of current suicidal ideation, and to subjects' predictions of future suicide potential.…
