Using tape recorded psychotherapy sessions, three methods of assessing the quality of a psychotherapist's empathy were compared. One of the results was that the three scales were not measuring different qualities as the intercorrelations among the three empathy measures were virtually perfect when corrected for unreliability. The results of this study provided additional support for the fruitfulness of conceptualizing four separate rational forms of novelty experiencing, as well as additional construct validation for each of the four measures. Overall the differentiation of the forms among themselves and with the external variables was reasonably good. (Author)
