Dattore, Patrick J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory scores yielded significant discriminations between cancer and noncancer groups. The group with cancer was significantly separated from the noncancer group on the basis of lower scores on Byrne's Repression-Sensitization scale (greater repression) and on the Depression scale of the MMPI (less…

Whisman, Mark A.; Uebelacker, Lisa A.; Weinstock, Lauren M. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2004
Using path analysis and hierarchical linear modeling, the authors evaluated the associations between both partners' level of depression and anxiety, as measured by Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) content scales, and both partners' level of marital satisfaction among married couples (N = 774) that participated in the MMPI…

Kunce, Joseph T.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale was administered to 30 male criminally insane patients and 15 violent convicts. Mellstrom, Martin, Jr.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1976
The relations between general and specific trait anxiety tests and fear measures in three actual situations were investigated. The results indicate that the specific tests were clearly superior to the general ones in predicting fear of snakes but only slightly superior in predicting fear of heights and darkness. (Author)

Nides, Mitchell; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1995
Analyzed predictors of end-of-treatment (4 months) smoking cessation and subsequent relapse at 12 and 24 months among 3,923 participants enrolled in a 12-week cognitive-behavioral group smoking-cessation program. Men were more likely than women to quit smoking initially, but relapse rates were similar for both genders. Clinical implications are…

Lutz, Wolfgang; Leach, Chris; Barkham, Michael; Lucock, Mike; Stiles, William B.; Evans, Chris; Noble, Rachael; Iveson, Steve – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 2005
This study extended client-focused research by using the nearest neighbor (NN) approach, a client-specific sampling and prediction strategy derived from research on alpine avalanches. Psychotherapy clients (N = 203) seen in routine practice settings in the United Kingdom completed a battery of intake measures and then completed symptom intensity…

Gardner, William; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1996
Compared accuracy of an actuarial procedure for the prediction of community violence by patients with mental illnesses to accuracy of clinicians' concern ratings of patient violence. Data came from a study of 357 pairs of patients seen in a psychiatric emergency room. Actuarial predictions based only on patients' histories of violence were more…

Kelly, Jeffrey A.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1995
Surveyed 5,939 men entering gay bars in 16 American cities to determine predictors of risky sexual practices. Excluding individuals in long-term exclusive relationships, 27 percent of respondents reported engaging in high-risk sex in the past 2 months. Findings indicate an urgent need for HIV prevention efforts for gay men in smaller cities. (RJM)

Bowen, Anne M.; Trotter, Robert, II – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1995
Expanded the applicability of stage models to the reduction of HIV-risk behaviors. Distributed not-in-treatment crack cocaine smokers and intravenous drug users across three levels of intention to change, which revealed that benefits of change and condom assertiveness varied across the stages of change. Discusses other findings. (RJM)
