Subjects were 80 undergraduates, randomly assigned to conditions by sex. The design included three variables: sex, placebo, and motivation. The present hypothesis-- that given the level of motivation appropriate for the subject's sex, males and females would not differ in effects of a placebo--found support in the data. (Author)

Used specific paths in structural equation models to examine reciprocal effects between constructs of polydrug use and relationship quality for 307 young women and 117 young men over 4-year period. Found eight effects for women and six for men from specific measures of drug use that adversely affected aspects of relationship quality. (Author/NB)
