The scale developed in this study did not differentiate empathic regard; however, the use of videotape and insights provided through recall sessions made possible the creation of an instrument and instructions for its use which came closer to a congruence of theoretical and operational definition than before. Investigates effects of sex of judge, sex of referent, and sex-pairing of judge and referent on level of understanding, or affective sensitivity, of school counselors. Male and female counselors were found to be equally accurate in their empathic judgments. There were no detected effects of sex-pairing. (Author)
