Distance from Peers in the Group's Perceived Organizational Structure: Relation to Individual Characteristics.
Lease, A. Michele; McFall, Richard M.; Viken, Richard J.
Journal of Early Adolescence, v23 n2 p194-217 May 2003
Examined the relation between perceived dissimilarity to peers and several peer-reported characteristics in 478 students from 26 fourth- through sixth-grade classrooms. Found that perceived dissimilarity was related positively to perceptions that a student was odd, socially excluded and withdrawn, bullying, and inattentive; dissimilarity related negatively with being fun to hang around. Peer-rejected students who were on the group periphery were behaviorally discriminable from more proximal peer- rejected students. (Author/KB)
