Zwick, Rebecca; Himelfarb, Igor – Journal of Educational Measurement, 2011
Research has often found that, when high school grades and SAT scores are used to predict first-year college grade-point average (FGPA) via regression analysis, African-American and Latino students, are, on average, predicted to earn higher FGPAs than they actually do. Under various plausible models, this phenomenon can be explained in terms of…

Weitzman, R. A. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1982
In a nonadversarial approach the predictive validities of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the high school record, the effects of the selection process on validities, and effects if colleges used a common standard of achievement were examined. Results indicate that the SAT may be a highly valid selection instrument. (Author/CM)

Temp, George – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1971
Results indicate that a common prediction system is not practical and that a separate prediction system should be developed for each subgroup. (AG)

Note About Possible Bias Resulting When Under-Statisticized Studies Are Excluded from Meta-Analyses.

Stanley, Julian C. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1987
Meta-analysis of research on a topic may exclude reports that do not present their results in a statistical form amendable to summarizing procedures used. This article illustrates how researchers can consider this aspect in computing statistics from their data. An illustration of how that can sometimes be done is presented. (Author/JAZ)

Wood, Donald A.; Langevin, Michael J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1972
Intent of this study was to examine an ability and achievement battery used in college engineering freshmen prediction for possible moderating effects in an attempt to enhance overall prediction. (Authors)

The Validity of Academic Predictors for Black and White Students at a Predominantly White University

Wainer, Howard – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1986
Describes recent research attempts to draw inferences about the relative standing of the states on the basis of mean SAT scores. This paper identifies five serious errors that call into question the validity of such inferences. Some plausible ways to avoid the errors are described. (Author/LMO)

Goldman, Roy D.; Hewitt, Barbara Newlin – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1976
This study of test bias used Black, Oriental, Chicano, and White students to answer two questions: (1) Is grade point average prediction for Chicanos and Orientals similar to prediction for Blacks and Whites? and (2) Does major field mediate ethnic differences in test performance? (Author/BW)
Descriptors: Asian Americans, Black Students, Ethnic Groups, Grade Point Average

Elliott, Rogers; Strenta, A. Christopher – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1988
The reliability of a method of adjusting grade point averages for differences in college-departmental grading standards was examined, using 409 female and 518 male Dartmouth graduates. Such adjustments' effects on predictive validity of high-school grades, Scholastic Aptitude Test scores, and achievement test scores were assessed, including gender…

Stricker, Lawrence J. – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1991
To study whether different forms of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) used since the mid-1970s varied in their correlations with academic performance criteria, 1975 and 1985 forms were administered to 1,554 and 1,753 high school juniors, respectively. The 1975 form did not have greater validity than the 1985 form. (SLD)
