Franklin, Anna; Wright, Oliver; Davies, Ian R. L. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2009
We comment on Goldstein, Davidoff, and Roberson's replication and extension ("Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 102", 219-238 [2009]) of our study of the effect of toddlers' color term knowledge on their categorical perception (CP) of color ("Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 90", 114-141 [2005]). First, we discuss how best to…

Richardson, Graham – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1984
Effects of inversion and reversal on children's word recognition performance were examined in relation to age, reading level, and word familiarity to determine whether retarded readers have greater facility with disoriented text than do normal readers. An inverse relationship between number and time ratios was found. (RH)

Posnansky, Carla J.; Rayner, Keith – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1977
Reports on a series of four experiments designed to determine more precisely the characteristics of the stage of visual feature analysis of word identification and to examine response competition factors in this interference task. (SB)

Aghababian, Valerie; Nazir, Tatjana A. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 2000
Investigated visual word recognition of first- through fifth-graders. Found that the "viewing position effect" typically seen in skilled readers and visual field asymmetries in recognizing individual letters in words emerged early at the end of the first year of reading instruction. Noted that findings support the view that basic reading…

Juola, James F.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1978
This study uses a search task to investigate the development of word superiority effects in visual perception. Subjects are kindergarten, second and fourth grade children, and college students. (CM)

Miller, Leon K. – Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1981
This study was designed to provide evidence concerning hemispheric independence in the visual modality of children and adults. Words and letters were shown either singly or in pairs. Hemispheric independence occurred more frequently among children when letters, as opposed to words, were shown. Results are discussed in terms of developmental models…
