Chow, Siu A.; Murdock, Bennett B., Jr. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
Three experiments studied the effect of amount and type of concurrent memory load on the rate of readout from iconic memory. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts, Memory

Kubovy, Michael; Psotka, Joseph – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
When asked to report the first digit that comes to mind, a predominant number (28.4 percent) of the respondents choose 7. Three further experiments sought to establish whether this predominance is due to an automatic activation process or to a deliberate choice. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Experiments, Flow Charts, Numbers

Scarborough, Don L.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1977
Five reaction time experiments explored word frequency effects in word-nonword decision tasks and in pronunciation and memory tasks. Analysis of the response latencies using Sternberg's additive-factors approach indicates that frequency effects consist of both effects in encoding and in retrieval from memory. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Charts, Experimental Psychology, Memory, Reaction Time

Olson, Chester L. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
In three experiments involving situations previously called upon in support of representativeness theory, questionnaire responses from 265 university students demonstrated systematic biases that deviated sharply from the obvious predictions of the theory. The implications for representativeness theory are discussed. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Bias, Cognitive Processes, Experimental Psychology, Experiments

Fox, John – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
The suggestion of Krueger (1973) and others that wholistic processes underlie certain perceptual judgments is taken up in this paper. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Letters (Alphabet), Psychological Studies, Reaction Time

Lichtenstein, Sarah; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Forty subjects were trained to make numerical predictions of a criterion from a cue. (Editor)
Descriptors: Bayesian Statistics, Cues, Experimental Psychology, Models

Avant, Lloyd L.; Lyman, Paul J. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Three experiments further explored the Avant, Lyman, and Antes finding that, during prerecognition processing, differences in subjects' familiarity with letters, words, and nonwords generate differences in the apparent duration of tachistoscopic flashes. (Editor)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Flow Charts, Perception, Psychological Studies

Squires, Kenneth C.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Article attempted to show how two major factors of decision confidence and expectancy are reflected in the P to the subpower of 3 component (a long-latency positive component) of the cortical-evoked potential. (Editor/RK)
Descriptors: Auditory Perception, Diagrams, Experimental Psychology, Psychological Studies

Lea, Glenn – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
The purpose of this article is to introduce a task and methodology that will enable the measurement and study of the elementary processes underlying imagery. (Author)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Imagery, Psychological Studies, Reaction Time

Dorman, Michael F.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Two distinguishing characteristics of speech perception are the rate at which speech can be perceived and the proficiency with which temporal order information is preserved. The present article is concerned primarily with the latter. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Perception Tests, Psychological Studies, Research Methodology

Klapp, Stuart T. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Three converging findings suggested that long movements are under feedback control whereas short movements are predominantly programmed and ballistic in nature. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Feedback, Flow Charts, Motor Reactions

Graham, Frances K.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
This article reports the first of a series of studies to determine whether the lead-stimulus paradigm would yield results in man similar to those obtained in other organisms. (Author)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Eye Movements, Flow Charts, Heart Rate

Shiffrin, R. M.; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
Authors examines the limits of selective attention during early stages of information processing. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Attention Span, Experimental Psychology, Information Processing, Perception

Hamill, Bruce W. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1976
The present investigation was undertaken to study the relation of one component of intonation or stress, namely, rhythmic temporal patterns, to the production of utterances. It is hypothesized that the rhythmic schema of an utterance contains information that delimits the possible syntactic forms of that utterance. (Author)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Information Processing, Language Usage, Psychological Studies

Pollatsek, Alexander; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 1975
Authors questioned whether the familiarity effect in the processing of words is a "perceptual" phenomenon or whether it is produced by visual rather than verbal mechanisms. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Experimental Psychology, Perception, Psychological Studies, Research Methodology
