Fink, Richard T. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
The ability of M. Levine's subset-sampling assumptions to account for the decrease in response latency following the trial of the last error was investigated by employing a distributed stimulus set composed of four binary dimensions and a procedure which required Ss to make an overt response in order to sample each dimension. Smith, Edward E.; Haviland, Susan E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
The influence hypothesis argues that the perceptual superiority of words is due to S's opportunity to use the redundancy in words for making perceptual inferences, while the Unitization hypothesis argues that words are more perceptible because there are fewer units to process in a word than in a nonword. Conrad, Carol – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
This paper suggests that although there is reasonable evidence to support that portion of the Collins-Quillian theory of semantic memory which hypothesizes that words are ordered hierarchically in memory, there is little evidence in support of their hypothesis of cognitive economy of storage in memory. Falmagne, Rachel – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
Forty-nine Ss learned a unidimensional concept with a six-dimensional stimulus set. Instructions specified the 12 possible unidimensional concepts, and the response on each trial was to give confidence ratings to each of the 12 corresponding hypotheses. (Author)

Wicker, Frank W.; Evertson, Carolyn M. – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
In three studies, pictures and words were compared on measures of imagery mediation, recall, and recognition in paired-associate learning. (Author)

Adams, Jack A; And Others – Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1972
The hypothesis was tested that forgetting could be found on one trial in the absence of interference if the conditions or response-produced feedback were sufficiently reduced. The task was the learning and recall of a linear movement. (Author)
