Camp, Bonnie W. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1973
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Children, Dyslexia, Exceptional Child Research

Taylor, Nancy E. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1980
Focusing primarily on learning disabled children, the article briefly reviews the literature related to perceptual skills required in reading acquisition and the validity of current perceptual measures to tap these task-related perceptual abilities, and proposes an informal task-related measure to overcome the drawbacks of more formal measures of…
Descriptors: Learning Disabilities, Literature Reviews, Perception, Perception Tests

Tryjankowski, Elaine M. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1987
The study evaluated the construct validity of five perceptual traits with simulated work samples from the Jewish Vocational Service Work Sample System. Results with 36 learning disabled adolescents indicated that simulated work samples can be used as a diagnostic instrument for assessment of perceptual abilities in a vocational setting. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Learning Disabilities, Perception, Perception Tests, Secondary Education

McCarthy, James J.; Larsen, Stephen C. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1976
Presented are a rebuttal and a counter-rebuttal to an earlier article questioning the educational usefulness of perceptual tests with learning disabled children. (DB)
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Learning Disabilities, Perception Tests

Colarusso, Ronald P.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1975
Examined was the relationship between the Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception and academic achievement as measured by the scholastic Research Association Achievement Test Battery with 125 primary grade children. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Achievement Tests, Exceptional Child Research, Learning Disabilities

Kelly, George R. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1970
Descriptors: Exceptional Child Education, Grade 1, Group Testing, Identification

Netley, C. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1973
Two groups of 15 boys (mean age 8 years, mean IQ 100), both presenting difficulties in academic achievement, but one with and one without visuomotor impairments, were assessed to determine whether poor drawing ability was related to perceptual or motor disorders. (Author)
Descriptors: Children, Exceptional Child Research, Eye Hand Coordination, Freehand Drawing

Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1987
Position statements of the Council for Learning Disabilities oppose the following: (1) use of discrepancy formulas in the identification of learning disabled individuals; (2) inclusion of nonhandicapped low achievers and underachievers in learning disability programs; and (3) measurement and training of perceptual and perceptual-motor functions.…
Descriptors: Elementary Secondary Education, Eligibility, Handicap Identification, Learning Disabilities

Friedland, Seymour J.; Meisels, Samuel J. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1975
Discussed is the spatial concept model of J. Piaget in terms of the child's development from topological spatial relationships to Euclidean and projective relationships with implications for assessment and remediation of perceptual dysfunction. (DB)
Descriptors: Child Development, Concept Formation, Exceptional Child Education, Learning Disabilities

Larsen, Stephen C.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1976
Descriptors: Auditory Perception, Elementary Education, Exceptional Child Research, Identification

Zach, Lillian; Kaufman, Judith – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1972
Performances on the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test and on a visual discrimination task using the same forms were found not to be related. Implication for identification of perceptual deficiencies and subsequent perceptual training are discussed. (KW)
Descriptors: Diagnostic Tests, Exceptional Child Research, Identification, Learning Disabilities

Smith, Philip A.; Marx, Ronald W. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1972
Evaluation of the Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception found that it measured a single general factor of perceptual organization which was weakly related to IQ and unrelated to reading ability. (KW)
Descriptors: Diagnostic Tests, Exceptional Child Research, Factor Analysis, Identification
