A total of 116 medical students entering the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio in 1975 were given the Jackson Personality Research Form (PRF) during their medical school orientation period. The difference in work patterns and practice characteristics of male and female physicians are examined. The results indicate that female physicians are less likely to work in traditional practice settings, work fewer hours per week, are reimbursed at a lower annual level, and have a slightly different composition of patients.
