This article presents the sociohistorical experiences of Vietnamese Americans that contextualize the therapeutic relationship. Using a case study approach, researchers illustrate the use of the Racial/Cultural Identity Development model (D. W. Sue & D. Sue, 2003) in the analysis of an interview with a young, adult, Vietnamese immigrant.

Uses case study approach to report on one community's efforts to facilitate Vietnamese refugee family's adaptation to life in the United States, identify issues that may have contributed to adjustment difficulties that continued for two young adults from the family, and suggests alternative ways to have approached these issues.
