Community programs associated with the Paralympic movement provide recreational or competitive opportunities for individuals with a disability who wish to participate in a sport or leisure activity. These community programs provide the background knowledge and specialized equipment needed for individuals with disabilities to participate safely and effectively. This article intends to define and help the reader locate community-based programs and Paralympic sport clubs for individuals with disabilities. The information provided here highlights why community programs are important for individuals with disabilities and how students in physical education can access these resources.
