West, Richard F.; Stanovich, Keith E. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1979
Primary school children performed a discrete-trial Stroop task in which they named the colors of stimuli that either matched or did not match items that were being concurrently held in memory. Results indicated a developmental trend toward the color being named faster when the stimulus matched the item held in memory. (Author/HOD)

Sassenrath, J. M. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1972
Discusses several factors of reading ability and their interrelationships at elementary, secondary, and college levels. (TO)
Descriptors: Decoding (Reading), Reading Ability, Reading Comprehension, Reading Development

Schwartz, Robert M.; Stanovich, Keith E. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1981
Investigates the use of graphic and contextual information in word recognition and the extent to which good and poor readers are flexible in their ability to trade off one type of information for another when the situation warrants. (HOD)
Descriptors: Context Clues, Grade 3, Grade 4, Primary Education

Ganopole, Selina J. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1987
Investigates the development of word consciousness prior to first grade and the relationship between word consciousness and reading ability. Konopak, Bonnie C. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1988
Examines differences in secondary students' vocabulary learning from inconsiderate (text characteristics that inhibit learning) and considerate contextual information. Reports that contextual information in natural text may be inconsiderate for word learning, but students may be satisfied with partial/erroneous knowledge. (MM)
Descriptors: Content Area Reading, Context Clues, Context Effect, Reading Ability

Carver, Ronald P. – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1993
Merges the Simple View of reading with rauding theory by advancing a revision, called Simple View II. Presents empirical evidence that, when the Simple View II is merged with rauding theory, the result is a theoretical framework which includes interrelationships among all of the important constructs involved in reading ability, for students in…

Ehrlich, Marie-France; And Others – Journal of Reading Behavior, 1993
Examines cognitive, metacognitive, and motivational factors as predictors of individual differences in the reading comprehension abilities of good and poor readers. Finds that regression analyses within subgroups indicated word recognition was the most important predictor variable for poor readers, whereas perceived competence predicted the…
