McColley, Steven H.; Thelen, Mark H. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between performance of an imitative response in subjects with either an internal control or external control orientation under conditions of model-reward or no model-reward. (Author)
Descriptors: Imitation, Locus of Control, Personality Studies, Research Methodology

Lerner, Melvin J.; Reavy, Patricia – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
One-hundred-and-sixty adolescents participated in two studies designed to investigate the relationship between I/E and helping behavior as mediated by the perceived cause of another's need. (Editor)
Descriptors: Helping Relationship, Locus of Control, Personality Studies, Research Methodology

Nowicki, Stephen, Jr.; Blumberg, Neil – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
The purpose of the present study was to relate subjects' locus of control orientation to the degree of initial interpersonal attraction expressed toward a stranger who differed from the subjects only in degree of expressed locus of control orientation. (Author)
Descriptors: Interpersonal Relationship, Locus of Control, Personality Studies, Research Methodology

Dengerink, H. A.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
Two experiments assessed the effect of individual differences on aggression. (Editor)
Descriptors: Aggression, Flow Charts, Individual Differences, Locus of Control

Bellack, Alan S. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
This investigation was designed to provide information about two issues: the nature of internal-external differences in self-reinforcement behavior and the source of those differences. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Individual Differences, Locus of Control, Personality Studies, Reinforcement

Lefcourt, Herbert M.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
The purpose of this paper is to explore this potential link between self-awareness conditions and the differential responses to various social influences that occur as a function of locus of control and field dependence. (Author)
Descriptors: Body Image, Flow Charts, Locus of Control, Personality Studies

Stern, Gary S.; Manifold, Beverly – Journal of Research in Personality, 1977
Internal and external subjects, who previously filled out Rotter's (1966) Internal-External scale, were asked to score the I-E scale of "another student". It was predicted that ratings of the "other" would increase in positivity to the extent the "other" scored as an interval. (Editor/RK)

Piechowski, Mary; Millimet, C. Raymond – Journal of Research in Personality, 1980
For externals, any variability in the reinforcing behavior of the "teacher" resulted in greater perceived freedom. For internals, perceived freedom was a negative linear function of the amount of reinforcement. Greater freedom was attributed to a person whose behavior was perceived as congruent with the person's inner disposition.…

Cornelius, Randolph R.; Averill, James R. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1980
The influence of personal control on reactions to shock differed as a function of the type of control and of the combination of control conditions. Behavioral control in the presence of information (cognitive control) reduced stress, whereas behavioral control in the absence of information augmented stress. (Author)

Stimulus or Response Induced Excitation: A Comparision of the Behavior of Introverts and Extroverts.

Brebner, John; Cooper, Chris – Journal of Research in Personality, 1978
The tendency to inspect visual material (slides) rather than to move on to the next slide was compared among introverts and extroverts. Results show: 1) extroverts inspected stimuli for a shorter time; 2) extroverts made more and faster reponses; 3) extroverts produced significantly higher proportion of runs of accelerating responses. (Editor/RK)

Health-Related Information Seeking as a Function of Health-Related Locus of Control and Health Value

Wallston, Kenneth A.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1976
Attempts to show how social learning theory provides a theoretical perspective for studying individual differences in information-seeking regarding preventive health care. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Health, Hypothesis Testing, Information Seeking, Locus of Control

Harkins, Steve; Geen, Russell G. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
Descriptors: Diagrams, Emotional Response, Evaluation Criteria, Locus of Control

Ramanaiah, Nerella B.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1975
This study tested Rotter's hypothesis that internals would show more achievement-striving behaviors than externals using a direct measure of such behavior. (Editor)

Nowicki, Stephen, Jr. – Journal of Research in Personality, 1982
Tested the hypothesis that internals will achieve more than externals in situations where competition is preeminent but not where cooperation is requried. Children (N=300) were divided into internals and externals, placed in situations varying in competition and cooperation, and readministered digit-symbol task. The general hypothesis was…

Thelen, Mark H.; And Others – Journal of Research in Personality, 1977
This study extends the research on being imitated by assessing its impact on the model's reward of the imitator and on the imitator's reward value relative to a juxtaposed nonimitating confederate. 48 first grade students of primarily middle socio-economic class served as subjects. (Author/RK)
