Wang, Song; Sung, Rou-Jia; Reinholz, Daniel L.; Bussey, Thomas J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2023
The use of two-dimensional images to teach students about three-dimensional molecules continues to be a prevalent issue in many classrooms. As affordable visualization technologies continue to advance, there has been an increasing interest to utilize novel technology, such as augmented reality (AR), in the development of molecular visualization…

Dega, Bekele Gashe; Kriek, Jeanne; Mogese, Temesgen Fereja – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2013
The purpose of this study was to investigate Ethiopian physics undergraduate students' conceptual change in the concepts of electric potential and energy (EPE) and electromagnetic induction (EMI). A quasi-experimental design was used to study the effect of cognitive perturbation using physics interactive simulations (CPS) in relation to cognitive…

Winn, William; Stahr, Frederick; Sarason, Christian; Fruland, Ruth; Oppenheimer, Peter; Lee, Yen-Ling – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2006
Considerable research has compared how students learn science from computer simulations with how they learn from "traditional" classes. Little research has compared how students learn science from computer simulations with how they learn from direct experience in the real environment on which the simulations are based. This study compared two…

Njoo, Melanie; de Jong, Ton – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1993
This study investigated what constitutes exploratory learning and what effects instructional support measures have on it. Among the conclusions were that students were reluctant to apply learning processes that are considered characteristic for exploratory learning. Students had problems with the process, especially with the process of generating…

Zietsman, Aletta I.; Hewson, Peter W. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1986
This study used a microcomputer program which diagnosed and remediated an alternative conception of velocity. Results show computer simulations are credible representations of reality and that the remedial part of the program produces significant conceptual changes in students holding the alternative conception. Effects of Conceptual Systems and Instructional Methods on General Chemistry Laboratory Achievement.

Jackman, Lance E.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1990
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of three instructional methods and conceptual systems orientation on achievement in a freshman general chemistry laboratory course. Traditional approach, learning cycle, and computer simulations are discussed. (KR)
