Herron, J. Dudley – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1971
Descriptors: Achievement, Behavioral Objectives, Chemistry, College Science

Culp, G. H.; Lagowski, J. J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1971
In each of three studies, students using computer assisted instruction for supplemental drill and practice in a first organic chemistry course performed consistently higher than control students on sections of the course examinations related to the content of the programs. (AL)
Descriptors: Achievement, Chemistry, College Science, Computer Assisted Instruction

Read, Floyd M. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1971
There were no differences in the understanding of physical optics and ability to solve physical optics problems after instruction or on a delayed test between students with or without prior instruction in wave motion. (AL)
Descriptors: Achievement, College Science, Instruction, Optics

Okey, James R.; Gagne, Robert M. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1970
Descriptors: Achievement, Chemistry, Curriculum Development, Instruction

Sherrill, David; Druger, Marvin – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1971
Attitude toward an undergraduate audio-tutorial biology course became more favorable as the course progressed. Aptitude scores were significantly related to achievement, with math aptitude the best predictor, but not to attitude toward the instructional technique. (AL)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Attitudes, Autoinstructional Aids, Biology

Mathis, Philip M.; Shrum, John W. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
College biology students attending an audio-tutorial center with high kinetic structure performed significantly better on achievement tests than students in a corresponding low kinetic structure laboratory. Gives numerous other findings concerning measurable aspects of audio-tutorial settings. (MLH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Biology, College Science, Higher Education

Szabo, Michael; Feldhusen, John F. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1971
Different learner characteristics are related to success in audio-tutorial and traditional" courses when step-wise multiple regression analysis is used. (AL)
Descriptors: Achievement, Autoinstructional Aids, Biology, College Science

Holliday, William G. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1979
Describes an aptitude treatment interaction (ATI) hypothesis used to investigate relationships among aptitudes and science instructional treatments in terms of student performance. It is proposed that ATI research work in science education will systematically yield reliable generalizations about how to adapt instruction to individuals with…

Sabar, Naama; Kaplan, Eugene H. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1978
Investigated was the adequacy of a teaching-learning model for improving the level of achievement and attitudes of culturally deprived children in heterogeneous classes, while offering adequate learning opportunity to those who were not deprived. A seventh grade biology course on aquatic zoo ecology was developed for this model. (Author/HM)
Descriptors: Achievement, Attitudes, Biology, Disadvantaged Youth

Ben-Zvi, Ruth; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
Students (233) in five Israeli high schools were tested to determine the relationship of IQ and achievement, attitudes, and manipulative and observational skills in chemistry. Students indicating a desire to pursue science study were found to differ signicantly their non-science oriented couterparts only on cognitive ability measures. (CP)
Descriptors: Achievement, Attitudes, Chemistry, Evaluation

Tamir, Pinchas – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
Advocates the analysis of student characteristics in determining the outcomes of instruction and the analysis of instruction to determine effects on student characteristics. (CP)
Descriptors: Achievement, Aptitude, Attitudes, Educational Research

Butzow, John W.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
Examines statistical correlations between six student traits and five measures of course success for 103 college students enrolled in an audio-tutorial introductory chemistry course. Among the conclusions was that the best predictors of success are the measures of prior achievement, notably grade-point average. (MLH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Chemistry, College Science, Educational Research

Anderson, Elaine J. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1978
Investigates the effects of combined learning cues (pretest and behavioral objectives) on the achievement levels of teachers in an inservice course. Subjects receiving the combined learning cues did not achieve at a significantly higher level than did those who did not receive the combined learning cues. (CP)
Descriptors: Achievement, Behavioral Objectives, Cues, Educational Research

Campbell, Richard L.; Okey, James R. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1977
Investigated was the influence of instruction in process skills on preservice teacher achievement, attitude toward process skills, and their use of process objectives and activities in lesson plans. Results indicated preservice teachers receiving process skill instruction improved in all areas relating to process education. (SL)

Herron, J. Dudley – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
This commentary refers to a recent paper (1975) by Sayer and Ball in this journal concerning the relationships between formal operational thought and science achievement, and requests additional information on the representativeness of the sample and the performance of boys and girls on the Piagetian tasks. The requested information is provided.…
