The Development of Scientific Reasoning Skills in Conjunction with Collaborative Writing Assignments: An Interpretive Study of Six Ninth-Grade Students.
Keys, Carolyn W.
Journal of Research in Science Teaching, v31 n9 p1003-22 Nov 1994
Three classes of ninth-grade general science students participated in a collaborative report-writing intervention study. Students' collaboratively written laboratory reports were evaluated for evidence of the use of scientific reasoning skills and to document qualitative changes in reasoning skills over time. Concludes that collaborative writing encourages students to construct their own understandings of science concepts. (ZWH)
