Presents a set of training experiences to develop school-based consultation skills in preservice school psychologists and discusses problems in implementing this model of service. Also discussed are methods for mobilizing teachers to plan more precisely to meet the needs of individual pupils in the classroom. (Author)

Reviewed a program designed to assist multidisciplinary teams engaged in screening and eligibility determination to assess their own functioning and set specific goals to improve their case handling procedures. Described the approach and provided some preliminary data on the usefulness of the program. (LLL)

Regardless of the complexity of issues or the instructor's fallibility, the instructure must make decisions around group problems of: (1) process v content; (2) purpose; and (3) format. These tensions mirror the tensions consultants face in work in schools. Coping with them may mean student consultants are better prepared. (JAC)

A nationwide survey on graduate training in school psychology indicated that the vast majority of programs remain committed to emphasizing the direct service triad of psychoeducational assessment, school consultation, and behavioral intervention. A very high percentage of programs employ a comprehensive practicum and internship experience. (Author)
