Academic Achievement of Children from Monogamous and Polygynous Families.
Cherian, Varghese I.
Journal of Social Psychology, v130 n1 p117-19 Feb 1990
Reports a study of 1,021 urban and rural Black children in Transkei, South Africa between the ages of 13 and 17. Findings showed scores on the Standard Seven external examinations were significantly lower among children from polygynous families and that these families were prone to conflict, emotional stress, and anxiety. Suggests teachers can play a positive role. (NL)
