Bubany, Shawn T.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2011
The purpose of this research was to investigate the extent to which vocational interests have changed across birth cohorts of college students to better understand how socio-cultural factors may have an impact on career development. Using meta-analytic data collection methods, dissertations and journal articles presenting interests scores…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Leuty, Melanie E. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2007
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the evidence of validity of the Skill Scale scores on the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISS). In a sample of 221 college students, analyses between the CISS Skill Scale scores and the CISS Interest Scale, the Strong Interest Inventory, and self-reported MAEQ abilities scores were…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; And Others – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1993
Multidimensional scaling was applied to Women-in-General (n=300) and Men-in-General (n=300) samples of the Strong Interest Inventory. Participants were matched on occupational title, obtaining two-dimensional solutions that demonstrated gender differences in the underlying structure of vocational interests. (SK)

Sullivan, Brandon A.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2004
This study explored evidence of the construct validity of the interest scales on the Campbell Interest and Skill Survey (CISS; Campbell, Hyne, & Nilsen, 1992) by testing evidence for convergent validity with the Strong Interest Inventory (SII; Hansen & Campbell, 1985). Two hypotheses were formulated. First, matching CISS and SII scales…

Swanson, Jane L.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1988
Investigated long-term stability of vocational interests in 409 college freshmen tested with Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory as freshmen in 1974, four years later (N=204), and in 1986. Results revealed remarkable degree of interest stability over all three time intervals and individual differences in stability over time. (Author/NB)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Dik, Bryan J. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2005
This longitudinal study assessed the power of the Occupational Scales (OSs) of the Strong Interest Inventory to predict the participants' occupations 12 years after Time 1 testing, 8 years after Time 2 testing, and concurrently at Time 3. Results indicated that OS scores predicted occupational membership at a level substantially higher than chance…

Hill, Raymond E.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1986
Comparisons of female research and development (R&D) managers technical specialist groups, male research and development managers, and nontechnical managers indicated female and male R&D managers were similar and both groups have task oriented rather than social-emotional leadership styles. Female R&D managers scored high in the Enterprising area,…

Holland-style Measures of Congruence: Are Complex Indices More Effective Predictors of Satisfaction?

Hoeglund, Tawni J.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1999
Two Holland-style congruence indices computed for 16 occupational samples did not show significant correlations between job satisfaction and congruence for 12 samples and very small relationships for the other 4. Using congruence measures to predict job satisfaction may be more efficacious for workers entering new fields than for the more…

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Johansson, Charles B. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1972
To pattern recent study on the Men's form of the SVIB, six scales were developed for the Women's form that mapped the vocational model of Holland's interest theory. The data were consistent with the correlations of the Holland-based scales with the basic interest scales and occupational scales now in existence. (Author)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C.; Sackett, Sharon A. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1993
Among 83 female student athletes, 63 females in a career decision-making course, and 81 women in a psychology course, the latter showed highest agreement between their major and vocational interests. Student athletes had the lowest agreement, which could be related to overidentification with athletics. (SK)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1976
Recent concern for eliminating Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) sex bias has focused on the current use of separately normed Occupational Scales for the two sexes. This study implemented six basic methods of scale construction to examine the feasibility of combined-sex scales. (Author)

Swanson, Jane L.; Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1985
Examined the Academic Comfort (AC) Scale of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory and its relationship to academic level, performance, and aspirations. Results from occupational criteria samples and a student survey indicated the AC scale is moderately correlated with grade point average and strongly related to attained educational level. (BH)
Descriptors: Academic Achievement, Academic Aspiration, Adults, College Students
