Keltikangas-Jarvinen, Liisa – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 2002
Examined the relations between aggressive problem-solving strategies and aggressive behavior and the intervening role of social acceptance in that relation in early and late adolescents. Subjects were 1,655 11- and 17-year-olds in Finland. Results show that aggressive problem-solving strategies were significantly, but not very highly, associated…

Rosenthal, Doreen A.; Smith, Anthony M. A. – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1997
The age at which young people expected the initiation of certain sexual practices was studied with 522 15- and 16-year olds. There was progression in modal ages indicated from least intimate to more intimate behaviors. There was also a strong relationship between sexual timetables and timetables for autonomy and use of drugs such as alcohol. (SLD)

Klein, Hugh – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1994
Using a 1987 sample of 526 undergraduates, this study examines changes in student alcohol use, alcohol abuse, and attitudes toward drinking over their college careers. The maturation of attitude and behavior observed in females was not seen in males, for whom college may represent a period of protracted adolescence. (SLD)

Novacek, Jill; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1991
Whether there are themes underlying adolescent drug use, and whether these themes are related to age, sex, or type of drug use was studied with 2,637 6th through 12th graders in Oklahoma. Age, gender, and user differences were identified as reasons adolescents use drugs. (SLD)

Alexander, Cheryl S.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1993
Inconsistencies in adolescents' self-reports of sexual behavior were studied for 758 rural adolescents (eighth-grade students in rural Maryland) who completed surveys over 3 years. Consistency rates fluctuate depending on the measure of sexual behavior, the racial/gender subgroup, age, and prior sexual experience, but the majority present…

Small, Stephen A.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1993
Costs and benefits that adolescents perceive for engaging or not engaging in potentially health-harming behaviors of alcohol use and nonmarital sexual intercourse were studied for over 2,400 seventh through twelfth graders. Perceptions of costs and benefits are related to gender, age, and the behaviors themselves. (SLD)

Shaw, Daniel S.; And Others – Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1992
Relative fits of 3 factor-structure models of adolescent reckless behavior were examined using the 10-item Reckless Behavior Questionnaire with 1,357 college and 181 high school students. Both one- and two-factor models were found to be satisfactory representations. Implications of a study of construct validity are discussed. (SLD)
