The relationship between identity and intimacy development was studied using 71 male and 71 female college students over a 5-week period using 3 theoretical models reflecting possible gender distinctions. The characteristics of 34 females and 237 males who exhibited sexual behavior problems were compared. Females were usually younger, and there were more female children of color. Differences in prevalence of depressive symptoms were studied for 1,108 male and 1,092 female adolescents from diverse ethnocultural groups through a national survey of symptom levels. Adolescents in New Zealand (492 boys and 468 girls) completed a 22-item scale concerning their self-perceived strengths. Parent, peer, and school attachment, part-time work, and number of physical activities in which they were involved (NPAs) were central for boys.
