Hines, Theodore C.; And Others – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1970
The procedures used to produce the index to volume 20 (1969) of American Documentation are described to demonstrate a system for computer-assisted indexing and bibliographic production developed at the Columbia University School of Library Science. The system is demonstrated to be economic in comparison to currently used manual methods. (Author/MF)

Solomon, Susan L. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1974
An analysis to ascertain which electronic data processing (EDP) systems are most flexible in processing wide ranges of volumes efficiently. A simulation model of the job environment of three common EDP systems provides information on the shape of their cost functions in the neighborhood of optimality. (Author/LS)

Norcio, A. F.; Kerst, Stephen M. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1983
Results of study investigating human memory organization in processing of computer programming languages indicate that algorithmic logic segments form a cognitive organizational structure in memory for programs. Statement indentation and internal program documentation did not enhance organizational process of recall of statements in five Fortran…

Cooper, Michael D. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1983
Examines usage patterns of ELHILL retrieval program of National Library of Medicine's MEDLARS system. Based on sample of 6,759 searches, the study analyzes frequency of various commands, classifies messages issued by system, and investigates searcher error rates. Suggestions for redesigning program and query language are noted. Seven references…
