Children who used chloride-deficient soy-based infant formulas (Neo-Mull-Soy and Cho-Free) have been found to exhibit expressive language disorders. Two four-year-old phonologically delayed children were treated using two intervention approaches for a six-week period. Although similar phonological improvements were seen in both children, the child in the whole language treatment showed greater improvements in expressive language performance. (Author/DB)

Described are scales of communicative interaction which can be used to evaluate children who are marginal communicators (such as the retarded, emotionally disturbed, or culturally deprived) by determining at what level the child uses interactive language in various situations. (LS)

This study examined effects on test-taking performance of enhancing the examiner's speech by means of an inexpensive mild gain hard-wired assistive listening device. Subjects were 11 preschoolers with mild expressive language delays. Results revealed a significant reduction in test-taking time in the amplified condition. (Author/DB)
