The Addition Bias in Dutch and Spanish Phonological Speech Errors: The Role of Structural Context.
Hartsuiker, Robert J.
Language and Cognitive Processes, v17 n1 p61-96 Feb 2002
Shows that incorporation of units for syllable CV structures in a connectionist model of phonological encoding enables explanation of empirical patterns of speech errors. The model accounts for the finding of a bias toward additions of segments. Corpus analysis in Dutch and Spanish showed an addition bias in both languages. Showed that in noncontextual deletion errors, resulting CV structure is often identical to syllables in the immediate context. (Author/VWL)
