Let the Kids Teach through Social Literacy!
Flater, Shannon Mann
Library Media Connection, v30 n4 p36-37 Jan-Feb 2012
School librarians should strive to create a learning environment that prepares their students for higher level thinking. They should not only memorize and remember, but also synthesize and evaluate their learning. This can be achieved through social literacy. By utilizing a collaborative lesson that has students teaching other students, school librarians and classroom teachers can create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking skills, metacognition, active learning, and opportunities to inquire. After all, the best way to learn something new is by teaching it to someone else!
