A summary and overview is given of a several-year research project, Requirements Study for Future Catalogs.'' The research was intended essentially to ascertain what information should be recorded in future library catalogs in order to best serve their users. This study found the patterns of circulation in various categories of adult books to be similar across the branches of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library. In only some subject categories, branch circulation levels were related to socioeconomic characteristics. (AEF)

Research conducted at Fisher Library, University of Sydney, which measured user failure to locate known items in catalog or on shelves, yielded overall failure rate of 35.9 percent (26.2 percent at catalog; 46.1 percent at shelf).
