Luo, Ye; Watson, Joshua C.; Lenz, A. Stephen – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
This study provided preliminary evidence for a new Social Media Identity Distress Scale (SMIDS) using two subsamples of emerging adults (18-25 years of age) from Amazon Turk (each n = 373). The factor analysis revealed a single-factor scale explaining 72.9% of the variance in the items and supported a 20-item version of the original 66-item…

Ganho-Ávila, Ana; Moura-Ramos, Mariana; Gonçalves, Óscar F.; Almeida, Jorge – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2019
We evaluated the Portuguese version of the Anxiety Sensitivity Index 3 (ASI--3--PT). Results of a confirmatory factor analysis (N = 603; 65.3% women, M age = 28.55, SD = 10.42) confirmed multidimensionality of the construct and the receiver operating characteristic confirmed the discriminant capacity of the measure between clinical and nonclinical…

Ghosh, Arpita; Niileksela, Christopher R.; Parham, Aishah; Janis, Rebecca A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
This study assessed factorial invariance of scores from the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms - 34 (CCAPS-34) across military (n = 2,836) and nonmilitary (n = 2,836) students accessing counseling services between 2014 and 2016. Based on factorial invariance tests, findings suggest the CCAPS-34 measures the same constructs…

Trub, Leora; Barbot, Baptiste – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
The "Messaging Motivations Questionnaire" ("MMQ") is a concise 8-item measure, which consists of two subscales capturing people's typical motivations to text. The MMQ was developed through focus groups and item analysis based on a pilot study, followed by a larger validation study involving a sample of 982 young adults. Factor…

Kagee, Ashraf; Coetzee, Bronwyne; Saal, Wylene; Nel, Adriaan – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
We administered the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to 101 adults receiving HIV treatment. Exploratory factor analysis yielded a single anxiety factor that accounted for 68.7% of the variance in the data. A single score may be used to indicate the overall level of anxiety of individuals receiving HIV treatment in South Africa.

Lancaster, Steven L.; Melka, Stephen E.; Klein, Keith P.; Rodriguez, Benjamin F. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
The current study examined the convergent validity and factor structure of the State-Trait Inventory of Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety in a sample of African Americans and European Americans. Validity analyses revealed similar associations; however, the factor analysis failed to support the original factor structure and factorial variance was…

Mullen, Patrick R.; Crowe, Allison – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2018
We examined the psychometric properties of the Short Grit Scale with a sample of school counselors. The confirmatory factor analysis resulted in a modified 2-factor solution and internal reliability estimates were satisfactory. Furthermore, participants' grit inversely correlated with their stress and burnout. We discuss the implications of these…

Crusto, Cindy A.; Dantzler, John; Roberts, Yvonne Humenay; Hooper, Lisa M. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2015
Using exploratory factor analysis, we examined the factor structure of data collected from the Race-Related Events Scale, which assesses perceived exposure to race-related stress. Our sample (N = 201) consisted of diverse caregivers of Head Start preschoolers. Three factors explained 81% of the variance in the data and showed sound reliability.
