Moore, C. Missy; Crawford, Carey C.; Tertichny, Alissa – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
We examined dimensionality and temporal stability of the Interpersonal Stress Scale-Counselor (ISS-C) scores in a sample of professional counselors (n = 518). Confirmatory factor analyses provided support for a four-factor model previously identified through exploratory factor analysis and a bifactor model. Using a randomized test-retest, temporal…

Michael T. Kalkbrenner; Mariany A. Gainza Perez; JoAnna S. Hubbard – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2024
Objective: The aim of the present study was to test the factorial invariance and convergent validity evidence of scores on the Somatic Symptom Scale (SSS)-8 with a national sample of adults living in the United States. Method: A data collection contracting service was hired to recruit a national, non-clinical sample (N = 821) of adults in the…

Sriken, Julie; Sherman, Martin F.; Erford, Bradley T.; MacInerney, Erin; Zhou, Anqi; Smith, Heather – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
This study explored the psychometric characteristics of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) on a sample of 414 university undergraduate students (M age = 19.07, SD = 0.95). Internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.83), external divergent validity, and internal structural validity were adequate; the 2-factor model provided the best fit…

Hales, Katherine; Sriken, Julie; Erford, Bradley T.; Sherman, Martin F.; Smith, Heather – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2023
The Social Justice Scale (SJS) and various subscales were studied on a sample of 414 human services university undergraduates. Internal consistency ([alpha] = 0.93), discriminant validity, and response bias were adequate. The 4-factor model demonstrated an excellent fit. Implications were discussed for use of the SJS in practice and research.

In this study, different factor analysis models were employed to test the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) in 11 distinct populations (n = 15,266) in different countries. The results strongly suggest that the most appropriate use of the SCS is to measure levels of Self-Compassionate responding (positive items) and Self-Uncompassionate responding…

Gonzalez, Edith; Sperandio, Katharine R.; Mullen, Patrick R.; Tuazon, Victor E. – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2021
This study describes the development and initial testing of the Multidimensional Cultural Humility Scale (MCHS), a counselor-report scale to measure a counselor's cultural humility, with a sample of 861 participants. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and internal reliability coefficients revealed evidence for the…

Vela, Javier Cavazos; Karaman, Mehmet A.; Garcia, Christian; Aguilar, Alma – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2020
Psychometric properties of measures of hope and meaning in life in Spanish among Latina/o college students were investigated. A confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate structural validity of instruments. Findings provided support for the reliability and validity of scores on the Disposition Hope Scale and Meaning in Life Questionnaire…

Lu, Junfei; Woo, Hongryun; Huffman, Keith – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 2018
This study used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to validate the 21-item Spiritual Competency Scale (SCS-R-II) with data from 176 participants. Moreover, this study examined correlations between the SCS-R-II and the Multicultural Counseling Knowledge and Awareness Scale, and the descriptive characteristics of participants' scores on the SCS-R-II.
