Baker, Stanley B.; Slakter, Malcolm J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1975
The investigations reported in this article serve a dual purpose. First, validity and reliability data relative to the School Counselor Attitude Inventory (SCAI) are presented for the users of that instrument. Secondly, those who share an interest in tests and measurement may find the presentation instructive. (Author)

Osterlund, Blair L.; Cheney, Kenneth – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
This study demonstrates the reliability of holistic reading for student essays. It was found that the Test of Standard Written English correlates to a greater degree with the holistic reading scores than it does with teacher-assigned grades. (Author)

Hix, Judith A.; Hensley, J. Higgins – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
The Personal Orientation Inventory (POI) is supposedly resistant to faking. This assumption was experimentally tested with 156 naive adult college and military participants by manipulating instructional set. Results indicate that participants were able to elevate or depress their scores as directed. (Author)

Hansen, Jo-Ida C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
Changing from the SVIB to the SCII increased the probability of machine-scoring errors. This study examined the accuracy and consistency of SCII profile scores for three commercial scoring agencies. Results indicated improved performance compared with previous studies and suggested that scoring errors should be minimal for the SCII. (Author)

Hanna, Gerald S.; Neely, Margery A. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
The Career Maturity Inventory Attitude Scale materials were found to provide very little useful information concerning the instrument's reliability. The data that were interpretable showed the scale to have quite modest reliability. (Author)

Knapp, Robert R.; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
An analysis of the profiles of 1,243 secondary school students showed that 45 percent had the same Group cluster as their peak interest on two successive years, demonstrating the stability of the COPSystem interest classification. (Author)
Descriptors: Educational Testing, Interest Inventories, Research Projects, Secondary Education
Goodyear, Rodney K.; Frank, Austin C. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
This study provides an analysis and cross-validation of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) occupational introversion-extroversion (OIE) scale, a parent of the IE scale in the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII). (Author)
Descriptors: Behavior Rating Scales, Comparative Analysis, Personality Assessment, Personality Measures
Halpin, Gerald; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Super's Work Values Inventory is utilized in making interindividual and intraindividual comparative interpretations of work values. Internal consistency reliability coefficients for 15 scales and reliabilities of differences between scores on scales were of such a weak magnitude that caution in making interindividual and intrindividual comparisons…

Cowan, Robert; And Others – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1978
Investigated construct validity of four self-report, self-concept instruments: Bledsoe Self-Concept Scale (BSCS), Children's Self-Concept Scale (CSCS), Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) and Purdue Self-Concept Scale (PSCS). In assessing the self-concepts of 175 fourth-grade children convergent validity of the tests was not established. (Author)

Prediger, Dale J. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
The appropriateness of raw score reports of human traits is questioned, especially in light of the support provided for Holland's theory by normed scores and the stereotypic career options suggested to males and females by raw scores. (Author)

Moore, Thomas L.; McLean, James E. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
Based upon the item analysis, reliability, and factorial validity results of this study, there is reason to question the applicability of the Career Maturity Inventory (CMI) Attitude Scale to a college population. In particular, students with self-expressed and measured levels of vocational maturity significantly differ from the norming…

Holland, John L. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
Prediger confuses observations about the data with Holland's theoretical statement, performs some uninterpretable analyses, omits much relevant data, and provides an incomplete account of what psychometric authorities have said about raw scores in interest inventories. (Author)
Descriptors: Factor Analysis, High School Students, Occupational Tests, Research Projects
Perry, Dallis K. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1976
Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) scores of 2,622 students who were tested in the 8th, 9th, or 10th grades and who later entered a Minnesota area vocational-technical school were analyzed to determine the relationships between test scores and training program entered. Results are presented. (Author)

Zirkel, Perry; Gable, Robert K. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
An examination of the test-retest reliability and construct validity of selected types of self-concept measures (nonverbal, verbal, pictorial, and observer-ratings) among a multiethnic population. Five self-concept measures were administered to 218 seventh and eighth-grade pupils from inner-city public schools. (Author)

Hodgson, Mary L.; Cramer, Stanley H. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1977
An increasing number of occupational and educational planning aids are relying on self-estimates of aptitudes rather than objective measures of abilities. A preliminary examination of the accuracy of self-estimated aptitudes with high school seniors (N=74) suggests unsubstantiated self-estimates may lead to decisions based on unrealistic…
