Pek, Jolynn; Sterba, Sonya K.; Kok, Bethany E.; Bauer, Daniel J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2009
The graphical presentation of any scientific finding enhances its description, interpretation, and evaluation. Research involving latent variables is no exception, especially when potential nonlinear effects are suspect. This article has multiple aims. First, it provides a nontechnical overview of a semiparametric approach to modeling nonlinear…

Rabe-Hesketh, Sophia; Toulopoulou, Timothea; Murray, Robin M. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2001
Describes multilevel modeling of cognitive function in 70 subjects with schizophrenia, 115 of their healthy first-degree relatives, and 66 controls. Describes four methodological issues arising during data analysis and how multilevel modeling can be used, and discusses some cautions in the use of multilevel models. (SLD)

Tomer, Adrian; Cunningham, Walter R. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1993
Structure of measures of speed was studied by conducting simultaneous confirmatory factor analysis for 1 sample of 149 elderly adults and a sample of 147 young adults using 16 measures of speed. Five first-order factors of speed were found, as hypothesized, and three second-order speed factors were necessary. (SLD)

Kloot, Willem A. van der; Herk, Hester van – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1991
Two sets of real sorting data from 50 college students are used to compare results of multidimensional scaling of raw co-occurrence frequencies or dissimilarity measures (D) and profile distances (delta) to determine which yields a better representation of the underlying structure of 2 sets of stimuli. Slight differences are discussed. (SLD)

Raykov, Tenko – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1995
The ability of 248 older adults to improve their performance on fluid intelligence tests, with or without tutor-guided instruction in cognitive skills, was studied using multidimensional longitudinal structural equation models. Results suggest considerable plasticity in adult intellectual function and the capacity to improve performance. (SLD)
