The problem of correlating variables from different scale types is discussed. A general correlation coefficient, based on symmetrization theory, is derived. The coefficient is invariant over permitted transformations of the variables for their respective (possibly nonequivalent) scale types. (Author/JKS)

The stability of dimensions extracted from a body of free response data was studied using 1,523 expressions of concern and questions raised by 271 elderly persons and analyzed by 2 groups of experimenters. The structures of resulting multidimensional configurations obtained by the 2 groups were identical. (SLD)

The advantages and disadvantages of balanced incomplete block designs are clarified and their use is demonstrated with an empirical example. A procedure for reducing data of this type to analyzable form is proposed, and an analytical approach that is appropriate for the resulting data is illustrated. (Author/BW)
