The January 1991 Current Population Survey asked, "Did you need training to qualify for your current job?" The 57 percent who said they needed training earned about $10,000 more than those who did not. Results agree with conventional wisdom on the subject and are consistent with those of a similar survey conducted in 1983. (JOW)

The authors describe the labor force status, occupation, and graduate or professional school status in April 1985 of college graduates who received their bachelor's degrees between July 1983 and June 1984. The data were analyzed for the graduates as a group and for each of 20 major fields of study. (CH)

Demand for elementary school teachers will rise; however, shortages may persist in some fields and in less attractive school districts.
