An Unschooler's Lament: What's So Hard To Understand?
Griffith, Mary
Paths of Learning: Options for Families & Communities, v1 n2 p17-21 Aut 1999
Common elements among unschooled families include an environment conducive to exploration and experimentation, adult models and facilitators of learning, and underlying trust that children will learn. Public education limits its expectations of children to narrow standards of behavior and academic achievement, whereas unschooling allows children to direct a process that prepares them for their future. Skeptics' arguments are discussed. (LP)
