Imitation Preference as a Function of Motor Competence.

Sixty children, ages 2-4, observed videotaped, same-sex models perform sequences of skills requiring different levels of motor development. When asked to imitate one act from each sequence, children tended to imitate skills at their own developmental level rather than skills above or below their current level of competence. (Author/SJL)

A comparison was made of the performance of 30 learning-disabled students on the Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test and the Beery Developmental Test of Visual Motor Integration. A significant correlation of -.72 was obtained. No significant difference was found in estimations of age equivalents. (Author)

Comparison of Static Balance in Trainable Mentally Handicapped and Nonhandicapped Children.

While for 31 trainable mentally handicapped children and for 31 nonhandicapped, there were no differences in static balance on left or right legs, total balance time was significantly different between the two groups. Elementary school boys in a program for the emotionally disturbed were administered the Revised Beery and Bender-Gestalt. A significant correlation of .73 between age-equivalent scores was obtained.
