Ten Top Tips from a Career in Primary Science
Dennis, Mike
Primary Science, n165 p31-34 Nov 2020
The author has spent almost all his life working in and enthusing about primary science. From being a class teacher in the 1980s, to running Curioxity, a small hands-on science centre in Oxford, to lecturing trainee primary teachers at Oxford Brookes University and finally working with Science Oxford to help create their wonderful new Science Oxford Centre. In this article, the author shares some activities he has used, which he found appeal to learners, as a starting point for supporting them with engaging in science content and exploration. The following activities are presented: (1) Light reflecting using a torch, mirror and tennis ball; (2) Seagull egg trick; (3) Odd one out; (4) Dinosaur blood; (5) Billy Goats Gruff; (6) Teeth rap; (7) Paper towel investigation; (8) Can you make a circuit?; (9) Sunflower Olympics; and (10) What's the difference between my teacher and a toy penguin?.
