Integrating Telehealth Instruction into the Graduate Nursing Curriculum
Erickson, Christie
ProQuest LLC, D.N.P. Dissertation, The College of St. Scholastica
Telehealth can be effective for those who use it; however, very few educational programs prepare their students to utilize telehealth. The goal of this project was to integrate telehealth into the graduate nursing curriculum. This was done by providing a 1-hour classroom educational demonstration and lecture on telehealth along with 4-hour clinical experiences utilizing telehealth to provide direct patient care. Seventy-two nurse practitioner students from a college in northern Minnesota participated in the project. Results indicate that that integration of telehealth education into the graduate nursing curriculum increases students' knowledge of it as a means of providing care. As telehealth is a means for providing services to underserved populations, it is important to incorporate education regarding this technology into the graduate nursing curriculum.
