Researching from a Site of Queerity: A Framework for the Study of Il/Legality in Higher Education Research
Valenzuela Ramirez, Jessica Itzel
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The Claremont Graduate University
The present study sets out to understand the interlocking experiences of undocumented status and queer identities as immigrant young adults pursue higher education degrees in the United States. A framework for future research is presented, which 1) is based on a queer understanding of the construction of legality, 2) posits that a multiply marginalized experience facilitates the development of a particular set of skills, or facultades, that transcend the planes on which they are experienced, and 3) defines sites of queerity, or sites of possibility where gender-nonconformity meets non-heterosexuality meets illegality, as sites of resistance.
