Case Study Analyses of the Free Appropriate Public Education for Parent Advocates
Gloria Robinson-Sessoms
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Regent University
The study centered on a parent's right to advocacy and free appropriate public education. A parent's right to advocacy involved providing information to parents in effective advocacy, due process, and court procedures. The research approach consisted of a qualitative hybrid legal case and legislature study. Four research questions guided the study in identifying the parent advocates' grievances, due process, and court cases. The study included analyzing two U.S. Supreme Court cases and six federal appeals cases to guide parents into advocacy. The cases indicated a pattern in parents' advocates' grievance areas that include due process and court cases, including individual education program, progress, eligibility, and placement.
