Case Study of Community Engagement Project with Madison Japanese Language School: Autoethnography of a Pianist Trained in Western Classical Music Tradition
Satoko Hayami
ProQuest LLC, D.M.A. Dissertation, The University of Wisconsin - Madison
The Doctoral Performance and Research submitted by Satoko Hayami, under the direction of Professor Martha Fischer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts consists of the following: (1) Written Project: "Case Study of Community Engagement Project with Madison Japanese Language School: Autoethnography of A Pianist Trained in Western Classical Music Tradition." This 140-page written project shares the detail of a community engagement project in partnership with Madison Japanese Language School. It includes the project development process, evolution of activities using music, and an autoethnographic reflection. As a musician in an ever-changing, more inclusive society, I argue that community-based projects be a central component of musician's training in colleges and universities moving forward.
