Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices
Allen Long
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
As K-12 student populations become increasingly diverse, effectively teaching students from a multitude of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences is becoming more challenging for educators. This challenge is exacerbated by the fact that the profile of teachers in the United States is and will continue to be Caucasian females for the foreseeable future and teacher education programs are stuck in theory rather than practice. This research aimed to study the effects that a culturally responsive teaching practices intervention would have on teachers. Findings suggested training elevated awareness of culturally responsive teaching practices but fell short when considering the implementation of teaching techniques and strategies and the impact on classroom climate.
