Strengthening the Principal Pipeline: Special Education Teachers

The main purpose of this study was to understand what encouraged principals who were previously special education teachers to transition to the role of principal. Considering special education teachers for leadership positions can working within the district. Special education teachers have unique skills and knowledge that sets them apart from traditional teachers, which may add to their effectiveness as school principal. The researcher conducted interviews with nine school principals who had prior experience as special education teachers. The research included one main interview, a follow-up interview, and two responses to a critical incident question. The goal of this study was to encourage more special education teachers to pursue their administrative credentials to work as school principals.
