An Evaulation of Selection Criteria for Early Band Music
Brandon E. Rutledge
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The Florida State University
The purpose of this study was to assess the importance of music selection criteria for middle school band directors and preservice band directors. Middle school band directors and preservice band directors (N = 101) were surveyed to discover how important each group viewed music selection criteria. Participation was limited to middle school directors whose ensembles performed grade II and III band repertoire and preservice band directors currently enrolled in music education programs. Subgroups were formed within the band directors and preservice band to determine whether changes occurred between each group. These groupings allowed the researcher to assess the differences in some areas between the importance of selection criteria for middle school band directors and preservice band directors. A total of six groups were used for comparison to determine whether significant differences existed between the importance of selection criteria for middle school band directors and preservice band directors.
