The Relationship between Kindergartners' Play and Achievement in Prereading, Language, and Writing.

Play was a significant predictor of success on all three measures of achievement. Socioeconomic status and sex appeared to have little influence on the prediction of achievement. Dramatic play had the most significant impact. (Author)

The Screening Test of Academic Readiness (STAR) as a Predictor of Third-Grade Achievement.

Evaluated the Screening Test of Academic Readiness (STAR) using a sample of 28 third graders. The third graders' scores on the Peabody Individual Achievement Test were correlated with their total STAR scores from prekindergarten testing. Results showed the STAR is a useful instrument for predicting third grade achievement. (Author/JAC)
