A model for preferential and triadic choice is derived in terms of weighted sums of central F distribution functions. It is a probabilistic generalization of Coombs' (1964) unfolding model from which special cases can be derived easily. This model for binary choice can be easily related to preference ratio judgments. (SLD)

A generalization of the usual random-effects model based on trimmed means is proposed. The resulting test of no differences among J randomly sampled groups has advantages in terms of Type I errors and can yield gains in power when distributions have heavy tails and outliers. (SLD)

The derivation of the variance of similarity judgments is made from the 3-D process in nonlinear psychophysics. The idea of separability of dimensions in metric space theories of similarity is replaced by one parameter that represents the degree of a form of interdimensional cross-sampling. (SLD)

A useful method is proposed for identifying a variable as inconsistent in factor analysis. The procedure, based on the likelihood principle, is illustrated.
