Most of the current analytic rotation criteria for simple structure in factor analysis are summarized and identified as members of a general symmetric family of quartic criteria. L. A. Goodman's loglinear formulation for bi-way contingency tables is extended to tables with or without missing cells and is used for exploratory purposes.
