A model for preferential and triadic choice is derived in terms of weighted sums of central F distribution functions. It is a probabilistic generalization of Coombs' (1964) unfolding model from which special cases can be derived easily. This paper demonstrates that two major tests for two-by-two tables, Fisher's exact and Pearson's chi-square tests, are highly related from a Bayesian perspective. A formal similarity is demonstrated in small samples, and reasons for the relationship are discussed. (SLD)

Modifications are proposed to the recently developed method of comparing one-step M-estimators of location corresponding to two independent groups that provides good control over the probability of Type I error even for unequal sample size, unequal variances, and different shaped distributions. Inference is considered for the marginal distribution of "X" when ("X", "Y") has a truncated bivariate normal distribution. The "Y" variable is truncated, but only the "X" values are observed. A sample of 87 Otis test scores is shown to be well described by this model. (SLD)
