Garlick, Rick – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1994
When 354 college students (approximately 70% European American) were asked to rate 19 ambiguous instructor immediacy behaviors for appropriateness, males rated 12 of the 19 to be significantly more appropriate than females and indicated significantly greater comfort with 14 of 19 behaviors. (SLD)

Turner-Bowker, Diane M. – Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, 1996
Subtle effects of gender stereotyping in children's literature were studied in 30 noted children's books from 1984 through 1994. Results show more males in titles and pictures, with no difference in central roles. Males were described as more active, but adjectives used for females were more positively evaluated. (SLD)

Both male and female third graders generally attributed male traits to boy peers and female traits to girl peers. Sex differences appeared on the self-description measure: girls saw their behavior as more similar to female traits than male traits, while boys saw their behavior as equally similar to both. Gender differences in reported anger and fear toward hypothetical males and females were explored in 120 6- to 12-year olds, 129 14- to 16-year olds, and 178 adults. Anger-producing or frightening situations or those depicting male stereotypic behaviors elicited the most gender consistent differences. (SLD)

The concept of indirect aggression in particular is presented and discussed, and it is argued that it is nonsensical to claim that males are more aggressive than females. Compares the perceptions of 387 male and female undergraduates of a scene involving a minor sexual violation in which 1 participant denies a kiss and the other kisses regardless. Studies exposure to life stress as an explanation for gender differences in older adults' utilization of social support. Results suggest that, as stressful events increase, elderly men and women are equally likely to become more involved in their social network, while gender differences emerge in response to chronic financial strain. Attractiveness ratings of 50 children (26 males and 24 females) aged 12-38 months are studied in relation to adults' socializing behavior and attitude toward them. Correlations between attractiveness scores and child behavior reflect sex differences. A greater impact of attractiveness on girls' development than boys is noted. (SLD)
